A rare Vintage Chanel Cut Out Logo Statement Cuff dating to the 1980s. In 18ct gold plated metal. A truly iconic statement from the House of Chanel.. A rare vintage Chanel Cut Out Logo Cuff. Dating to the 1980s with Victoire de Castellane at the helm of costume jewellery and Karl Lagerfeld Head of Design. Their inspired designs cleverly and exquisitely reviving the flailing couture house following Coco's death in the 70s. This incredible cuff is crafted in 18ct gold plated metal and patterned with the iconic matelassé repeating rhombus pattern. The matelassé pattern has become synonymous with Chanel products ever since it was used for the first time during the conception of Coco's emblematic handbag, the 2.55. It’s Chanel that deserves the praise, since Gabrielle made it one of the codes for her brand and a now timeless stamp on the female wardrobe. Some say that this quilting method of stitched rhombuses was inspired by the jockeys' jackets at the racetrack whilst other sources mention the horses’ saddle cloths playing a part. One theory is the pattern was a reference to the stained glass windows in the abbey where Gabrielle Chanel was raised. None of these theories have been proven and it seems only Mademoiselle Coco Chanel could tell us the true inspiration. Anyway, it's fun and intriguing to muse a while. This iconic, hard to find, C H A N E L cut out logo cuff is in very good vintage condition. This condition is is rare too as many of these cuffs have since cracked along the edges due to adjustment stress. This cuff measures approx. 19cm circumference, 5cm wide and an opening gap of approx. 3cm and the Chanel authenticity mark can be found on the inside.
