My client acquired this in France many many years ago from a dealer. She was told at the time that is was an early Chanel acquired directly form the original owner. It does not have any labels but it does have the feel of piece Chanel was doing at the time. I am offering it at a price for the quality of the dress itself. If one could verify that it is indeed Chanel than the price is ridiculously low! The work is remarkable - a textured silk has been knife pleated and the over-stitched in horizontal rows from shoulder to the dropped waist. This creates a subtle checked pattern that is quite lovely. The skirt swings out from the lower hip into the pleat work and have beautiful movement. This is a wonderful bias cut, hand screened silk chiffon flapper dress. Constructed from an almost weightless silk chiffon, the entire dress floats and moves with the barest of movement on your part. The edges are finished with the tiniest of stitches and help give a subtle waving effect to them that makes it sit and move even better. The panels are all pieced and hand placed to create a tubular feel and then seaming allows the skirt to widen out and float with a little bit of volume. This same ruffled floating bottom effect is picked up at the end of each sleeve of the little matching jacket. It is extraordinarily lovely and wearable with care.
